ENEMLOS project and GREEN LEGAL AID
Members of the management team of the ENEMLOS project from the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro (UoM), Prof. Dr. Biljana Đuričin and Ass. Prof. Dr. Nikola Dožić discussed cooperation with the representatives of the Center for the Study and Protection of Birds - CZIP (Jana Iković) and Korina (Tijana Kovačević and Stefan Šljukić) on October 26, 2022, in the premises of the Legal Clinic.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Nina Radulović as a representative of the Bar Chamber of Montenegro, who initiated the introduction of "green legal aid" into the Project.
Coordinator Đuričin briefly presented the ENEMLOS project to the present parties as one of the largest projects of the UoM’s Faculty of Law, which is supported by the EU Erasmus+ program for capacity building in the field of higher education and its key goals. First of all, the effort to modernize the teaching with practical work. In this way, students should be motivated and improve their employability, and vulnerable social groups from the wider community should be provided with free and high-quality legal advice. At the same time, long-term and sustainable cooperation will be established with legal institutions in the country and abroad from among the project partners.
The representatives of the present non-governmental organizations explained briefly their work.
Korina presented its rich experience in providing legal advice and assistance in the protection of domestic animals and engagement in the improvement of the relevant legal framework. At the same time, it expressed willingness to take part in the training of students to work in this field and enable them to visit the work of Korina on the spot.
CZIP presented rich experience in the field of combating poaching, i.e. protection of wild animals and habitats such as the Ulcinj Salt Flats. It also pointed out the numerous projects realized so far, the research done and publications issued, the events organized, and the involvement in the improvement of the legal framework. It has presented the possibility of providing the Legal Clinic with real cases in the field of combating poaching.
It was generally stated that in the field of ecology in Montenegro, there are a number of problems that can be solved by students working at the Faculty of Law Clinic. This is why their prior education is necessary.
The general conclusion is that there is room for cooperation that can expand over time. However, in order for cooperation to be possible through the ENEMLOS project, it is necessary to sign cooperation memoranda valid for the duration of the project with the possibility of extension.
The Bar Chamber of Montenegro will assist in further communication between the UoM’s Faculty of Law and non-governmental organizations in order to conclude relevant cooperation memoranda.
